What is coronavirus?
It is a new respiratory virus that is fast spreading & causes pneumonia-like symptoms.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. They circulate in animals & can be transmitted between animals & humans.
The Coronavirus likely came from bats. It is not certain exactly where or how it jumped to humans however, health officials believe the outbreak originated in a large animal & seafood market in Wuhan China.
What are the symptoms?
- Difficulty breathing
- Can cause Pneumonia
- Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
- Kidney failure
The incubation period of the new coronavirus is thought to be between one and 14 days. The virus is contagious before symptoms appear.
The number of people affected.
In China alone, approximately 106 people have died & around 4515 have been infected. (Approximately)
Cases in Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, Canada, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Germany & Cambodia.
Practice basic hand hygiene such as washing hands with soap & water for at least 20 seconds.
Cover mouth & nose when coughing & sneezing.
Avoid touching your mouth, eyes or nose with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Avoid unnecessary contact with animals & ensure that you wash your hands thoroughly after contact.
Ensure the meat you eat is cooked thoroughly
