The first piece of advice that is essential for anyone worrying about contracting the coronavirus is simple.
WASH YOUR HANDS.
Hand washing is a tried & true, scientifically proven preventive strategy that reduces the likelihood of transmitting both viral & bacterial borne diseases.
The logic behind washing your hands goes far beyond just, well “washing your hands”. You could save your life & many others’ by following basic & simple hygiene methods of washing your hands as follows:
- STEP 1: WET YOUR HANDS
Place both hands under clean, running water
- STEP 2: LATHER
Apply a generous amount of soap to your hands & lather (be sure to cover the front, back, sides & fingertips, oh & don’t forget under the nails!
- STEP 3: SCRUB!
Rub your hands together. FOR AT LEAST 20 SECONDS (sing the “happy birthday” song in your head whilst you wash your hands from start to finish).
- STEP 4: RINSE
Using clean, running water, place both hands under the tap again & rinse off all soap
- STEP 5: DRY
Using a disposable paper towel (to avoid germs from regular towels) pat dry your hands.
Whilst these steps might sound extremely simple & pointless, we urge you to follow it & grasp the difference it will make in yours & others’ lives as many of us tend to do a quick rinse under the tap for under 1 second & assume the dirt or germs have been removed.
In order to curb the spread of coronavirus, staying at home, practicing social distancing & washing hands are tools we have already. Lets make use of them & stay safe!
